Kishtwar dated 20 Mar 2022. Indian Army in its continuous efforts to motivate the youth of the region has undertaken a variety of programmes. In continuing with the same spirit, the Army alongwith Kishtwar Power lifting association affiliated to all J&K UT power lifting association and power lifting India, International and Asian Power Lifting Federation organized a Power lifting championship at TRC, Kishtwar on 20 Mar 2022. Bodybuilding and Power Lifting are a popular sport and passion for many in Kashmir. To guide the youth and provide them with a platform to showcase their talent, the Army organised such a unique and competitive event for channelizing youth energy in positive direction.
It was the first time, Indian Army organised such a exclusive and spirited event wherein 80 participants which included 15 women and 65 men participated from across Kishtwar district. The various weight categories for the competition included 53-66, 66-74, 74-83, 83-93, 93-105 and above 105 and above 105. The competition was completed in three rounds in each category. The judges were local gym trainers from Kishtwar and also included 46 yr old Dr. Joneed Iqbal Shah, Medical Officer, Ayush, winner of muscle mania championship at Delhi, hailing from Palmar, Kishtwar.
The winner of the Sr and Jr Powerman award will go on further to represent the district of Kishtwar at the J&K UT Power lifting championship to be held in future. Winners and runners up from both the categories were awarded with trophies and medals. Mr. Mubin Dar resident of kishtwar was awarded with rolling championship trophy for Senior powerman, Kishtwar whereas Mr. Sahil Bhagat resident of Kishtwar was declared as 1st runners up and Mrs. Kusum Lal was awarded with gold medal for 1000kg lifting in women’s category. The bodybuilding and Power lifting preparation competition will instill sportsmanship, discipline and hardworking attitude towards life of the youth and take them away from vices of the society.
It was an effort by Indian Army to promote the famous and popular sport among the youth. Conducting of such competitive event has further strengthened the existing relationship with AWAM. Such sports will not only inspire the youth but also the process of bodybuilding has inculcated sportsmanship qualities giving a new meaning to life of an aspirant. The locals appreciated the organizers and Indian Army for conducting such a wonderful event that will help further spread positive environment and help in engaging youth in creative activities.
